Isles Ensemble Concert with Yale Musicians

February 2 at 2pm

Sign up for a pre-concert brunch with some of the musicians at the Kenwood by Jan 30!

Join alumni Ken Freed (BK ’83, MM ’88), Emily Switzer (ES ’17, MM ’19), and Sarah Switzer (DC ’19) and their colleagues in the Isles Ensemble on February 2nd for an afternoon of warming chamber music inspired by the sun. 

 Compositions by Joaquin Turina, Jennifer Higdon, Terry Riley, and Joseph Haydn feature on a concert at 2 pm at Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church. Tickets are available at the door or via the Isles Ensemble website

Gather before the concert for brunch with some of the musicians! 12pm at the Kenwood, menu available here. Space is limited, so please contact Emily Switzer (emily.m.switzer@gmail.com) by January 30th if you’d like to attend.

Something Extra was founded in 1977 as one of the first all female a cappella singing groups at Yale. They perform pop, jazz, indie rock, folk, and country, as well as traditional Yale songs. Although Something Extra's group members seldom major in music, our repertoire is exclusively self-arranged

Something Extra  has toured at home and abroad throughout North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean, performing at venues such as the White House, U.S. embassies, and the set of "Jeopardy!"

 Cooks of Hope will be catering a special holiday heavy hors d'oeuvres smorgasbord. 

This event has been underwritten by a YAANW community member and we are asking for donations for our Malcolm McDonald Fellowship. 

In 2025, we aspire to expand the summer fellowships we can provide to Yalies through the Malcolm McDonald Fellowship. These $6,000 fellowships support current Yale undergraduate students who are either from the YAANW region or undertake a project focused on the YAANW region. Please join us in gathering together and help support an additional fellow this year. While any amount is appreciated, a donation of $50 per guest to the Fellowship is encouraged to help us reach our $6,000 goal. DONATE HERE

Harvard Vice Provost of Climate and Sustainability

James H. Stock is Vice Provost for Climate and Sustainability, Harvard University; Director of the Salata Institute for Climate and Sustainability, Harvard University; the Harold Hitchings Burbank Professor of Political Economy, Faculty of Arts and Sciences; and a member of the faculty at the Harvard Kennedy School. His current research includes energy and environmental economics with a focus on fuels and on U.S. climate change policy. He is co-author, with Mark Watson, of a leading undergraduate econometrics textbook. In 2013-2014 he served as Member of President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers, where his portfolio included macroeconomics and energy and environmental policy. He was Chair of the Harvard Economics Department from 2007-2009. He holds a M.S. in statistics and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley where Janet Yellen was his advisor.

President Salovey at MIA

The Yale Alumni Association of the Northwest invites you to join us for a rare reception and talk with Peter Salovey, the 23rd president of Yale University and the Chris Argyris professor of psychology. President Salovey is coming to the Twin Cities for a special visit with Yale alumni and families.

The price for the event is $40 per person ($25 for recent alums), which includes heavy hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, and private access to adjacent galleries. Registration is required by April 20.

We are hopeful that as many of you as possible will join us. Special Speaking Event at Owamni by The Sioux Chef

As part of the Yale Alumni Association’s Redpath Speaker Program, Paul Freedman, the Chester D. Tripp Professor of History at Yale, will share his specialized knowledge of the cultural history of cuisine with alumni on March 2, 2023 at an evening dinner event to be held at Owamni, the award-winning restaurant of The Sioux Chef, Sean Sherman. Owamni features indigenous cuisine of Mni Sota Makoce and is located inside the Water Works Pavilion in Mill Ruins Park at 420 South First Street in Minneapolis, between 3rd Avenue South and 5th Avenue South.

The price for the event is $85 per person, which includes a three-course family-style meal prepared from Owamni’s award-winning modern Indigenous menu. A cash bar featuring wine and mocktails will also be available. Because seating is limited to 40, a registration may be only for up to two people. This will be a special event!

Nearly every month, the Yale Alumni Association of the Northwest hosts lectures, luncheons, and social events for Yale alumni in the area. From baseball games at the Saint Paul Saints to academic lectures at the Minneapolis Club to building houses with Habitat for Humanity, our events span the spectrum of events local alumni might want to attend. In particular, our events tend to fall into one of three categories:
